Happy New Year! I think this year will be a good year? Why. Simply because I want it to be a good year. Do you believe this year will be different than last year, in a good way? Do you believe that you have what it takes to no to only lose weight but to keep it off…for life??

Or are you feeling a little like this? (this is directly from a friend that posted on private message board).

“So I’ve been watching the new WW commercials with J Hudson talking about believing. I really like these new ads but they made me realize that I don’t think I believe that I can do this. I don’t know why either. I don’t know if it’s some subconscious sabotage or just too much negative talk with myself. Does any one else deal with this and if so, how do you start making yourself believe that you can do it, that you are worth it, etc.???”

I truly think there is divine intervention when I plan my WW meetings b/c each week something seems to happen to make me realize why the meeting topic is so important.

I truly, honestly believe we all have what it takes to lose weight, get healthy, feel good, etc. Really! Why? Because I too once felt that I would never look good or feel good again. After I had Jack and gained all that weight and it didn’t fall right off, I had resigned myself to the fact that mom’s just look this way, frumpy, wearing overalls and turtlenecks. I honestly remember telling myself that in the mirror one day. I thought I just don’t have the willpower to do “this.” This being WW!

What happened? What happened was many things, but one was this! I was tired of telling myself I CAN’T. As a mom I was now conditioned to help my son CAN do things, to be positive. Right? If I sit here every day and help him be successful, but I sit around and say “nope, can’t lose weight” isn’t that hypocritical?

Anyway, so the word CAN’t had to be eliminated

Today, right here, we will all eliminate that word. There is no CAN’T in WW vocabulary!! We CAN eat whatever we want, we CAN be successful. How do we do this?

Jack Canfield’s book The Success Principles, How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be,” has many of the strategies, along with our awesome WW PointsPlus 2012 Program.

  1. Jack says we need to take 100% responsibility for our life, in my terms that means you need to ACTIVELY PARTIICPATE IN YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY. WW will give you the tools but you need to actually DO IT.
  2.  Give up all your excuses….whatever you said in the past is over….no more blaming everyone else or something else. I have a new friend, Lex, and she has a radio show called NO EXCUSES! I love it. There is no excuse NOT to take care of yourself. You are here..you came to WW b/c you want to get healthy, now do NOT let anything get in your way. The past is the past..whatever you said before…throw it out.

Everything you experience today is the result of choices you have made in the past, right? Eat lots of food, gain weight, eat healthy lose weight? You’ve all done it. According to Canfield, you only have control over three things in your life—the thoughts you think, the images you visualize and the actions you take (your behavior).

What do you think about that statement? How does it relate to your WL journey and WW?

#3 Give up blaming – LOVE this part of Canfield book. It is tough, but it is soo true!! Read page 10 of The Success Principles

#4 Give up complaining (page 11) then page 13

OK..so what I want you to all do is BELIEVE that you can be successful.

Two parts to believing…Believe it is Possible and Believing in Yourself! If you believe you can achieve.

I am guessing that if you are here it is because you WANT to be here, there was some last straw event that occurred and you said “enough, I’m tired of being tired.” At that point you believed you could be successful, you believed that WW was the answer, true?

New Year’s resolutions for many of you? Yes? Well I don’t want to lose you when the honeymoon phase of WW ends. When the excitement of something new wears off.

For many folks, that belief continues until something happens…a slight weight gain, a missed meeting, a few poor choices, etc. Then the excuses happen. Then the believing goes away. I try to grab you back..I’m successful if I have you on Facebook or email. But if not. I lose you and that makes me said.

Let’s turn this around. Just b/c losing weight and getting healthy is great, does not mean it is easy. Just b/c you had some bumps in the road in the past, does not mean you won’t be successful. You need to tell yourself every day that you can do it, that you have the abilities it takes to eat healthy and exercise, attend your meeting, say no thank you, cook, shop, etc. We call this positive self talk. It is UBER important on our weight loss journey. I truly believe we are our own worse enemies. We have the innate ability to sabotage ourselves b/c we didn’t do something perfect, or we had a cookie, or didn’t work out one day. Fear of success? Fear of failure? Whichever it is, get rid of it! Everyone in your life that care about you believes you can do it, right? You believe the person sitting next to you can do it. I know you do. So why are you any different? You are NOT.

OK, that was deep. I am pretty sure WW wanted me to start off tooting horns and jumping up and down about how great the WW program works. Sure, I believe that, I really do. I am living proof it works. But, I also truly believe I have the skills, abilities and knowledge to be successful…therefore I am.

I feel my role as WW leader is not only give you the tools to be successful for the program, but to give you Tools for Living, we have many of them. Learn from Experience and Empowering Beliefs.

We are all experts is what works for us. Look at what worked for you before on your WL journey and do that again. What didn’t work. Well, toss that out. Empowering beliefs, basically all that I just chatted about. Believe you have what it takes and you WILL be successful.

There are new members in the room. I will review the program with them after class. But, my current folks, what would you say to them to help them get off to a great start this year? What one tip/trick/piece of advice?

The WW PP program is great! I invite all of you to stick around for the Power Start session where we’ll talk about the program essentials and then the Power Choices session. A strong start can increase your confidence in your abilities and strengthen your belief that success is achievable.

Commit to Change: Turn to the back cover of your WW weekly. Under the This Week’s section, write down why you believe you will achieve your weight loss goals? What will be different for you this time?

Next week, Make Powerful Plans, about meal planning.
